I am responsible for leading deals from initial investment through to exit and taking a non-executive board seat at the businesses that we back. Since joining ECI in 2008, I have enjoyed working with and learning from high-calibre management teams including Moneypenny, BCN Group, MPM, Fourth and Clarke Energy.
I am also proud to be Chairman of ECI’s ESG Committee, and am responsible for considering the non-financial factors related to ECI’s investment activity.
I started my career with a crash course in the world of finance from Arthur Andersen and Deloitte, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. Having really enjoyed meeting so many different businesses, I wanted to contribute to and ultimately share in their longer-term success, so when the opportunity arose to move into private equity, I didn’t hesitate.
“After short spells trying my hand as a newspaper boy and farm labourer, my first real job was in the kitchen at McDonalds. I can only guess at how many thousands of hamburgers I have cooked!”
“The 1980’s classic, Top Gun. At 6ft 3, I am too tall to fit in a fighter jet cockpit, so watching the exploits of Maverick, Iceman and Co. is as close as I will ever get to the real thing.”
“When I’ve nothing better to do, I look down the league table to see how Everton are getting along – Bill Shankly.”
